The decision to take in a pet is not one that should be taken lightly, especially if you have no prior experience of having a pet. Pets come with a lot of responsibilities and expenses, so you need to make sure that you are able to handle all those responsibilities, physical, emotional, financial and otherwise. Now, if you have found a cat that you want to take in, you need to prepare yourself beforehand so that you can help your cat adjust.

Cats do not adjust quickly to their surroundings and they do not usually warm up to people immediately. So, we are going to walk you through a few things you can do to help ease your cat into its new surroundings and home.

Before going to pick up the cat, make sure you have the essentials, and by essentials I am referring to cat food, bowls, a few toys and a cat carrier. A cat carrier is very important especially when you are moving the cat from place to place. Car rides can get overwhelming for cats and it can cause them stress which in turn ends up making them act out which can be dangerous for both you and the cat. The cat carrier is supposed to keep them secure. If you want to buy a cat carrier, you can check out

Once the cat is finally home, do not rush to pick it up. Instead, just open the carrier door and allow the cat to take its time. The cat will eventually step out of the carrier and hide somewhere at first. They will then slowly start exploring the house, do not overwhelm them with your presence during this time. You can stay in the same room, but keep a distance and allow your cat to come to you itself once it is comfortable enough.
